Club St Michael's

Our After School Club and an additional Breakfast Club are run by J&L Out of School Ltd.

Here they try to answer some of the questions you might have:

Who are J&L Out of School Ltd?

J&L Out of School Ltd are a local privately owned company providing quality After School Clubs, Breakfast Clubs and (where there is demand) Holiday Clubs.  We have been operating at St. Michael’s for 10 years and are proud to say that we have become a very close part of St. Michael’s community.

Our aim is to create and deliver thoughtful and engaging programmes for children at the school, providing them with an opportunity for informal learning, as well as to relax and have fun.

We share the same ethos and values as St. Michael’s and that is why our club is called simply Club St. Michael’s – although it should be stressed that we are a separate entity from the school.

Where does Club St. Michael’s take place?

Our breakfast club is run from the St. Michael’s and All Angels Church Hall at the bottom of Gordon Hill.
The after school club is run from the school dining room.

What happens at Club St. Michael’s?

We offer children an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities in a fun, safe and engaging way.  At a session, children are given the opportunity to relax and select what they would like to do from a wide selection of toys and games plus they are invited to participate in organised activities based upon topical themes.

From 7.45am each morning you will be able to drop your children at Breakfast Club (at the St. Michael’s Church Hall) where they will enjoy a breakfast comprising a choice of cereals with toast plus juice, milk or water to drink.  We then walk the children, in a group, up to school in time for registration. Both the Breakfast Club and After School Club are solely for St Michael’s children.

At After School Club, as well as free play, children can complete homework or so some quiet reading and we always include the opportunity for them to play physical games either indoors or out.  Food has an important role to play and at every session we provide healthy options for tea-time snack and rigidly follow school’s dietary policy.

Is Club St Michael’s Ofsted registered?

Yes, we are Ofsted registered and comply with government regulations on how to care for groups of children aged 4-11 years.  Our last Ofsted inspection at St. Michael’s can be read here. Club St Michael's - Open - Find an Inspection Report - Ofsted .

The Ofsted registration number for Club St. Michael’s is:  2604801.

Are the staff qualified?

All our staff meet the qualification and experience requirements laid down by Ofsted. Furthermore, our staff undergo a hand selected recruitment and training process that involves the following:

  • Recruitment interview
  • Reference checks
  • Verification of qualifications/experience as stipulated by Ofsted
  • DBS Check
  • Paediatric First Aid

Our training includes: Behaviour Management, Food Safety, Safeguarding and more.

What is the staff to child ratio?

Ofsted allow a staff ratio of 1:30 for out of school hours’ childcare.   Club St. Michael’s will always have a higher staff ratio than that.  Our minimum is around 1:15 but we are flexible with this to ensure the safety of the children and quality of service.

Who is eligible to enrol at Club St Michael’s?

Any child attending Reception Year or above at the school is eligible to enrol. We strongly recommend that an enrolment form is filled out for every pupil in the school whether you intend to use the service or not. This proves to be helpful in some unforeseen circumstances where a parent may require our services at short notice. No child may attend unless we have a completed enrolment form for them. All details will be uploaded onto our secure software and paper copies are stored in a locked cabinet and only used in accordance with our confidentiality policy and GDPR.

Parents of children in Reception please note that your children are not permitted to attend breakfast and after school club until they are attending classes for the full school day. This is to give them the chance to become acclimatised to the school before they are exposed to an extended school day.

How do I enrol my child and is there a waiting list?

Just complete and return our enrolment form.  You can download it here. Alternatively, hard copies of the forms are available from the school office, or you can request one by email from office@jandloutofschool.onmicrosoft.com

A parent handbook will be sent to you by email.

The clubs are very popular and waiting lists operate on certain days where demand exceeds the number of spaces available. Our best advice is to complete an enrolment form and get your name down as early as possible.
