1 Enfield Marble Run Science Challenge

Can you build a marble run / rollercoaster that keeps a marble moving?

The Enfield competition is open to all children (aged 5-13) and there are specific rules on who can work together.

However, if you are only  planning on entering the St Michael's competition, then older siblings, parents, carers, grandparents, dogs, etc are all welcome to help (or you can even have your own mini in-house competition).

All the details of the actual competition can be found on the attached document below - please note the deadline for submission is Friday 15th May - I strongly advise you read the document as it has useful links and examples.

Addtionally, St Michael's will run their own mini-competitions in a number of catergories:

  • Longest running marble - which marble will travel for the longest period of time.
  • Biggest vertical drop - create the longest (distance) for a marble to travel straight down.
  • Most inventive 'tricks' - loop the loops, spirals and other exciting additions.
  • Best design - come up with a theme and then let your artistic flair run wild.
  • Enthusiastic audience partcipation - cheering, clapping and other background excitement - will your marble on!

As well as sending your work into the Enfield competition, you can send it to us at year5@st-michaels.enfield.sch.uk, please remember to include 'Science' in the subject heading.

Those switched-on children in Year 6 may remember completing a similiar activity in Year 5!
