Meet the Senior Leadership Team

Jan Matthews Head Teacher

I never really planned to be a teacher! At the tender age of eighteen and a couple of weeks, all I knew was that I did not want to go to work – so I went to college instead. I chose my course on the basis that the campus had an open air swimming pool and lovely grounds. Not sound academic reasons I know, but, it turned out to be an excellent choice. Since graduating and realising that somehow I had become a teacher, I set about enjoying it. Since then, I have travelled the world and taught in four very different schools in the UK as well as in North India (U.P), South India (Tamil Nadu), Kuwait and Papua New Guinea.  For the last seventeen years, I have combined being a class teacher with being a Deputy Head.

I love the fun of teaching and would never do anything else!

Ann Rolland Deputy Head

For most of my working life BC (Before Children) I was fortunate to be part of the senior management of one of the UK’s leading companies, where, for many years, I enjoyed a successful business career.

Whilst my three children were small, I trained to teach adults and it was this that inspired me to train as a primary school teacher once they settled into school. Qualifying  as part of the first cohort of the Graduate Teacher Programme at Middlesex University, I have since completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy Difficulties in my quest to further understand how to support children who struggle when learning to read and spell. For the past seven years, I have been part of the St Michael’s family - mainly as SENCO and part of the Senior Leadership Team and, in July 2014, I was appointed Deputy Headteacher.

Mary McGunnigle Senior Teacher

I went in to teaching as a MATURE adult, I have always enjoyed the challenge of helping children and find teaching rewarding.

I have worked in schools in both inner and outer London and across key stage one and two.

My last job was in an academy in Wood Green.

I earned my degree at Hogwarts School of Magic where I obtained a masters in The Care of Magical creatures, specialising in Hungarian Horntails. (Honest!)

Giles Floyd Senior Teacher

I teach and am our PE Subject Coordinator. Prior to joining St Michael's team, I taught at Brimsdown Primary School. I have been lucky to experience teaching years 1 up to 6 and also run our running and hockey after school clubs. I am therefore often seen around the school in a pair of shorts!
