PE

Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision.

Muhammad Ali

At St Michael’s we want to develop and nurture the Leaders of Tomorrow and use our Values (Love, Respect and Integrity) and our school Motto (Seek Joy in Service) as we do so.
PE encourages discipline, collaboration, strategy, resilience, perseverance and so much more.  Leadership skills are essential in all areas of PE and we aim to develop these skills both during PE lessons and in our extra curricular provision.

At St Michael's we have a whole-school commitment to promoting physical and mental well-being, healthy living and active lifestyles amongst children and staff alike. We participate in inter- and intra-school competitions throughout the year from football to netball, hockey, gymnastics, dance, golf, tennis, rounders, football and athletics.

Healthy competition is a philosophy we support and our Sports Day (separated for KS1 and KS2) in July sees an inter-House competition for children in years Reception all the way up to Year 6. Do browse our Galleries section for photographs of this wonderful annual event - see the smiles and silliness!

PE is a key part of our curriculum, with every class allocated two hours of PE per week as well as additional physical activity such as 'The St. Michael's Mile.  We know and understand the importance of PE as a subject and encourage every child to learn to appreciate the benefits of healthy living and being aware of their own mental well-being as they face challenges in life.
For more detail about the progression of skills in this subject, please see below.

The curriculum we use is led by the National Curriculum.
