Parent Guidance

On this page, we have tried to gather together all the key bits of information and guidance you may need. As well as any answers to common questions.  Remember this situation is new to all of us and everyone's situation is unique.

Home-learning

If your child is self-isolating but is well enough to work please contact us on the Year 2 email.  Please also check the Working from Home page for some work to get starter on.

The work set should take the children between 2 – 3 hours each day and should consist of:

·         One piece of English work per day

·         One piece of Maths work per day

·         One (short) period of reading per day. This could be a class text or a text chosen by the child

·         One (short) period of skills/fluency based practice eg TT Rockstars / spelling games etc

·         One period of physical activity per day

While the majority of the activities we plan will encourage interest and independence, it is important that your child continues to practise certain skills.

For example:

  • Times tables,
  • Number bonds
  • Spellings
  • Practising basic arithmetic

Please look at the report given in the last parents evening as most of these targets will still be relevant. Your child should continue to practise these.

We are fully aware that during these unprecedented times, every one’s home circumstances are different. The guidelines are just that… guidelines. You may end up doing more work on some days than others. We are estimating how long tasks will take and we may get it wrong! If you find that your child is particularly enjoying one task, let them explore that interest and spend less time on other activities.

You know your child best! Our aim is not to recreate school but keep them engage with their learning.

Be flexible, be patient and be kind to yourself.
