June 2025

As we head into the final few weeks of the school year, I’m filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for all we’ve achieved together at St Michael’s. It’s been a fun-filled and productive year through all three terms – full of learning, laughter, and memorable moments. As we approach the end, we're hoping for a smooth and enjoyable last stretch, hopefully with just enough sunshine (and not too much heat!) to make these final weeks special.

This time of year also brings change, and with it, some heartfelt goodbyes. We are saying farewell to a few cherished members of our school community, and while we are excited for what lies ahead for them, they will be deeply missed.

Mr Johnson, a true pillar of our school, will be leaving us. I’ve absolutely loved working alongside him – his care and dedication to St Michael’s have been unwavering. He has been a constant source of support for me personally, and his shoes will be incredibly hard to fill. We wish him every success and hope our new team member will come to love this school just as much as he has.

Mrs Goddard, our talented Year 5 teacher and a valued member of the leadership team, will also be moving on. From training here as a student teacher to becoming an indispensable part of St Michael’s, she has shown extraordinary commitment. Her hard work and passion for the school have made a lasting impact, and we know she’ll bring the same dedication to her new role, where she’ll be taking on a new challenge with a little more balance in her week. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs Jones, who has supported the school so faithfully as a teaching assistant – especially in Maths and PE – is also leaving us. Her calm, unfussy approach and tireless support have made her an essential part of the team. She does everything with such goodwill and grace – her absence will be truly felt.

Finally, we say goodbye to Mr Barnardo, who is leaving to take up a role at his church. He has brought energy and inspiration to our music curriculum and has helped deliver some of the greatest performances we've had at St Michael’s. His creative spirit and support have been a huge asset to the school, and we wish him all the very best in his new path.

To each of these incredible colleagues – thank you. You’ve helped make St Michael’s the caring, vibrant place it is. We wish you all the very best in your next chapters.

Let’s enjoy these last few weeks of term together – making more memories, celebrating achievements, and seeing out the year with the same joy and spirit that has carried us through it.

Celebrating Our Recent SIAMS Inspection

I hope you’ve all had a chance to read our recent SIAMS inspection report, which is now available on the school website. I am incredibly proud and deeply grateful to our entire team for their dedication, passion, and hard work that shone through so clearly during the inspection.

A special thank you to Mrs Khimasia for her tireless commitment to developing and delivering our RE curriculum so effectively, ensuring that our children not only learn but truly thrive through it.

I was especially proud of our wonderful pupils, who spoke with such confidence, maturity, and eloquence about their experiences at St Michael’s. They articulated beautifully how our school vision and values are woven into every aspect of life here.

Thank you also to our parents and carers for your unwavering support – your kind messages of encouragement before and congratulations after the inspection meant so much to us. Your partnership continues to be a vital part of our community and our success.

  Hot Weather Update

As we experience warmer weather, we are taking steps to ensure all children remain safe and comfortable during the school day.

  • Children are not required to wear ties and are encouraged to wear loose, light clothing and sunhats.
  • Please make sure your child brings a named sports-lid water bottle each day.
  • We recommend applying high-factor suncream before school. Children may also bring in a named roll-on suncream, which they can apply themselves.
  • Playtimes and outdoor activities may be adjusted to avoid the hottest parts of the day, and indoor/shaded areas will be available.
  • We are making full use of our modern, well-ventilated spaces to keep learning environments cool.

We will keep you updated with any further changes if needed. Thank you for your continued support.

Celebrating Recent Achievements

A huge well done to all the children who have recently completed their Phonics Screening Check. The successful implementation of Little Wandle and our teachers’ commitment to high-quality phonics teaching is clear to see. It’s wonderful to see how this approach is supporting strong reading foundations for all our children.

Congratulations also to Year 4, who completed their Multiplication Tables Check with great focus. Let’s keep the momentum going by engaging with Times Tables Rock Stars at home – it’s a fantastic tool for building confidence and fluency, and a key stepping stone to success in maths.

And a big well done to Year 2 for completing their Key Stage 1 SATs. These assessments are used simply to support our teachers’ existing judgements and are delivered in a calm, child-friendly way.

As always, I am incredibly proud of our children’s positive attitude to learning and their determination to do their best every day.

Fun Times and New Adventures!

This half-term has been packed full of exciting experiences, and we couldn’t be prouder of how our children have embraced every opportunity!

Year 5 returned to the Enfield Church “Seek Joy in Service” project, spending time supporting and bringing joy to members of the retired community — such a thoughtful and meaningful experience.

Year 1 came back from their trip to the Frameless Exhibition full of smiles and excitement — many saying it was “the best trip ever!”

Year 3 visited the V&A Museum to explore design and innovation, linking directly to their Design and Technology project on pneumatics. It was a great opportunity to see real-world examples of mechanisms and creativity in action.

We’ve also had some epic sleepovers:

  • Year 2 enjoyed a fun-packed night at school,

  • Year 4 braved the outdoors with camping at Tolmers,

  • And of course, Year 6 had an unforgettable time at our new residential venue in Matlock, Derbyshire — I was lucky enough to join them, and what a fantastic setting it was!

A huge well done to all our children for their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and willingness to try new things. We know that for some, these experiences can feel challenging — and that’s okay too. Every step forward is worth celebrating, and each child’s journey happens in their own time.

It’s also a joy for us as staff to share in these adventures. Seeing the children grow in confidence, laugh with their friends, and create lifelong memories makes it all so worthwhile.

Another action-packed, joy-filled half term – and more to come

Next Year’s Staffing

On Wednesday 16th July, the children will take part in a Class Swap Day, where they will spend time with their new teacher for next year. This will be a lovely opportunity for them to begin building relationships and getting a feel for what lies ahead.

There will be some changes to staffing next year, and as a team, we have already been working hard to plan and prepare for a smooth and positive transition. We have now allocated teachers to each class, and the children will find out who their new teacher is on Class Swap Day.

In addition, we are following a carefully planned transition programme to support the children during this period of change. The programme is designed to help them look forward to the next stage of their journey with confidence and excitement, and to help ease any anxieties they may have about moving up.

We know that transition can bring a mix of emotions, and we are committed to supporting every child through this process so that they feel settled, reassured, and ready for the year ahead.
