World Book Day at St Michael’s: A Celebration of Reading Together
I always love World Book Day at St Michael’s! Seeing so many parents reading alongside their children across the school—a joyful, relaxed way to share stories and a love for reading.
Our whole school assembly launched the “Go All In” campaign, reminding us all of our strong reading identity and community spirit. Classes got creative in the Decorate Door Competition, choosing favourite books from this year’s curriculum to inspire colourful door designs. Throughout the day, we paused for several “Stop & Read” moments—everyone dropped everything to enjoy reading together.
The afternoon was full of fun with a Masked Reader challenge – Guess the Teacher and Reading Buddies sessions, where older pupils read with younger ones, always lovely to see.
The day ended with pupils reflecting on their favourite books and how reading with others made them feel. It was a brilliant celebration of our love for reading and the power of stories to bring us together.
Author to wrap up Science Week with a sense of inclusivity
We were delighted to welcome Lauren Currie OBE, author of Taylor Meets The Trick, as part of our Science Week celebrations. Lauren’s whole-school assembly sparked thoughtful conversations about fairness, confidence, and gender equality—key themes for building a fairer future in science and beyond.
Thank you to all the families who supported the event by purchasing Lauren’s book in advance and to the parent who kindly helped organise this memorable session. It was a fantastic celebration of curiosity, inclusion, and learning for everyone at St Michael’s!

Forces for Positive Change
So proud of 2 girls in Year 4 who used their persuasive writing skills to contact Taylor Shaw about menu options for children with allergies on special theme days. We are so pleased with our catering company and how seriously they take allergies and risk. Their Area Manager visited to meet with the children and School Council, to discuss their ideas and share a new allergies cookbook - explaining clearly how and why menu choices are made. Our children truly are Forces for Positive Change - our school motto in action and I’ve already seen the changes happening!
Orchestra Unwrapped: A Memorable Experience for Our Pupils
We were incredibly lucky to secure tickets for 180 of our Year 4, 5, and 6 pupils to attend Orchestra Unwrapped at the Royal Festival Hall, celebrating 80 years of the Philharmonia Orchestra. Getting so many children to London and back by train was no small feat, but with careful planning, it was absolutely worth it.
The concert mesmerised many of our pupils, offering a fun and accessible introduction to a full symphony orchestra. It was wonderful to hear positive comments about our children’s excellent behaviour, both during the performance and from fellow passengers on the train.
While children may not fully appreciate the impact of such experiences now, they will surely look back and value being part of this historic celebration.
We are excited to share that Orchestra Unwrapped will also be a key part of the KS2 music curriculum next half term, continuing to enrich our pupils’ musical learning. Our KS2 teachers recently received professional development directly from the Philharmonia Orchestra, enhancing their expertise to deliver high-quality music education.
Additionally, we were fortunate to have a parent share her passion for music with whole school staff training, offering valuable insights into how music positively influences the brain and learning. She provided practical tips on how we can incorporate music into our daily teaching practice to support pupil development. Watch this musical space!

This March, our school joined thousands across the UK in celebrating British Science Week 2026—a nationwide event dedicated to exploring the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). This year’s theme, “Curiosity,” encouraged students to ask questions and seek to answer them.
Throughout the week, classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students took part in a variety of hands-on activities and experiments. Students also had the opportunity to take part in live lessons delivered by experts, allowing them to connect with real scientists and engineers beyond the classroom.
The highlight of the week was our STEM Fair, held at the end of the celebration. Students proudly presented their projects, with topics ranging from volcanoes to the biology of everyday life. Thank you to parents and carers who attended and made the fair a huge success.
British Science Week 2026 reminded us that science is not just a subject in school—it is a way of understanding the world and shaping the future.
St Michael's Team Sports
We are incredibly proud of all our children who have represented the school in sport recently. Our footballers and netballers have shown fantastic commitment and teamwork while taking part in the local leagues, representing the school with determination and pride.
A special well done goes to our Year 3/4 pupils who took part in the Borough Athletics competition. The girls finished in an impressive 5th place, while the boys secured an incredible 1st place overall. Congratulations also to Sonny Gibbs, who is now Borough Champion for the boys, an amazing achievement, especially as he competed against children in the year above.
At St Michaels, we truly value every child as an important member of the team. Whether they are competing, training, or supporting from the sidelines, every contribution matters. We are committed to providing more opportunities for all pupils to take part in sport, and as we enter more competitions, even more children will have the chance to represent the school and experience being part of a team.
Well done to everyone involved, we are very proud

Dance Festival Success at Millfield Theatre
On 18th March, our talented dance team took to the stage at Millfield Theatre for an unforgettable festival performance. In the weeks leading up to the event, the children showed exceptional discipline and dedication, practising tirelessly to perfect every movement.
Their hard work truly paid off. The performance was not only beautifully executed but also deeply emotional, captivating everyone in the audience. The praise and positive feedback we received afterwards made us incredibly proud of each and every dancer.
Following this success, we are delighted to announce that the same team will go on to compete in the regional heats in Chelsea on 14th April. This is a fantastic opportunity, and we firmly believe the team deserves to shine on an even bigger stage.
Well done to all involved—we are so proud of you

Debating Team
Congratulations to our magnificent debating team, who won The Great Debate at Chase Community School, arguing in favour of the motion, 'AI is harmful to society'. The judges were very impressed with the teamwork, quality of arguments and use of rebuttal. Thanks also to the Year 5 team who also performed extremely well in the semi-final.
